I am building an online community which will help people to replicate armizare as described in Fior di Battaglia.
There are 267 individual plays and posta shown in the Getty manuscript. 155 of these involve grabbing, pulling, pushing, kicking, binding, throwing or otherwise physically manipulating the opponent or their weapon. It very clearly demonstrates a far more close-range brawling style than is commonly represented. The repetition of applied simple principles across all weapon systems is what has always drawn me to Fiore, and this is what I would like to explore in this community.
To help improve my own skills and serve others to improve theirs, I have developed a curriculum which provides structured progress through increasing levels of coordination and speed. This curriculum provides a framework for students with different streams of skillsets building on previous work, and gradually tying together in a comprehensive fighting style.
Not only that, but it provides a clarity and focus for people to identify where they are, where they are going, and what they need to do next to get there. It also allows people to track their progress and more readily recognise their own efforts.
Like Fior di Battaglia, the curriculum covers locks, throws, kicks, dagger work, longsword and spear, as well as a small component of pollaxe. It is built around basic concepts of movement being constantly refined and applied to different contexts.
I would like to invite you to join this community as a founding member.
The aim of this membership is to really replicate Fiore’s armizare as closely as possible. A lot of Fiores work, and what really appeals to me about what he’s written here is that it’s the application of a number of underlying principles that are fairly simple and just applied across a wide range of contexts. And I find that very interesting. He’s not a specialist of a particular weapon but rather he has these underlying principles, which can be used in a wide variety of contexts.
Inside the membership, you get access to a curriculum, which I have attached here. This curriculum is the main framework that the entire membership is based on. The idea of the curriculum is that it gives a structured progress through increasing levels of coordination and speed. It allows people to track their progress as they’re moving along. And it also lets you see where you are, where you are trying to get to and the fastest and easiest way you get there.
Also in this membership, you’ll get access to a growing library of resources. And this is where the curriculum is really broken down into its component pieces and loaded onto the site as a series of courses. This will allow you to move through the curriculum and assess where you are and move on to the next relevant stage there.
I’ll be releasing a new course every month, and this will give you the time and scope to pick over what’s involved and start to really learn what’s there and focus on each section at a time.
You’ll also of course, need access to a translated copy of Fior di Battaglia. I’ve translated this book and its available to download as a pdf to all members.
You’ll get access to live streaming of physical classes. I run a local club and I’ll be live streaming classes into a private Facebook group. And so that way you can be a part of a group. Even if you don’t have one physically available to you, you can be part of a virtual club. These classes run twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, Australian Eastern standard time.
I’ll also be uploading weekly tutorials to reinforce the teaching from the latest course or from themes which have emerged out of the physical classes we’ve been running. This then gives the opportunity for you to ask questions and for me to respond. So it’s very much an interactive process here. It’s really trying to create a group and provide you with the best opportunities to get the most you can out of this service.
The private Facebook community is the forum where all the live streams and tutorials will be going and that’s gives us a space to collaborate with each other. We’ll be discussing techniques. You can share your progress and you can do all these things in a manner without having to give the surrounding context as to what we’re talking about, because everybody’s on the same pathway and following the same plan and working towards the same goals.
My role in this membership is to help you improve your armizare skills. The membership is intended as very much an interactive space. So if you’ve got any ideas for improvement or any comments that you’d like to make, you can let me know via email or in the Facebook group comments. And we can always tweak the program or the teaching methods, or whatever makes it better for people. As I said the other day, I am building it as we go, and it is intended to change some in order to best provide your outcomes.
It is important to recognise that this community is not fully established yet. The tech side of things is not completely sorted yet, and the members area still needs to be built out. Although the content will be growing over time, it is still pretty thin on the ground at the moment. This is truly a founding member launch and there are going to be a few rough edges.
That is why I am offering such a low price to join me as a founding member, so that we can work together to figure out how I can best serve you here and help you get the results you want. If you join me as a founding member, you will be forever locked in at the lowest price. When this community is complete and officially launched to the public, I will raise the price. However, your price will always stay the same.
You get the founding member benefits of having a low price from having been able to get in early. Being a part of the community gives us a chance to connect and collaborate with each other on how I can best refine what I will be teaching, sharing and most importantly, helping you progress your armizare.
The registration period will be closing on July 15. I do this to cater to all the new members coming through. Similar to a college class, once the registration period is complete, everyone begins class together and I make myself available to support you. If it was open all the time, it would get confusing and complicated trying to support people who were going through different parts of the program.
So the deadline is midnight Australian eastern standard time on Thursday 15th July. If you are interested, click the button below to let me know and get started. I cant wait to help you fight like Fiore.
